Plantagenet Events presents

Chetwynd Medieval Fair

2nd & 3rd July 2016 *Cancelled* sadly and with great regret the organisers are unable to put on this event this year

11am to 5pm

at Shropshire Lavender Pickstock, near Newport, Shropshire TF10 8AH

Chetwynd was a small village mentioned in the Doomesday Book. It was one of the holdings of the de Chetwynd family and the first fair took place over three days in 1318. The charter for the fair was granted to Sir John de Chetwynd by Edward II and we know that the fair continued for at least the next 16 years.
Click <here> to see the original Charter.

The fair has been recreated annually for the last seven years where you can stroll through its market of historical traders, selling wares of every kind, artisan craftsmen and women demonstrating skills that have often vanished from the modern world and beautiful handmade items that recreate a lost world.

The fair would have gathered people from every part of the countryside and every walk of life, to buy and sell, to gossip and share news, to meet friends and make new acquaintances.

Imagine you are a medieval man or woman and come to see what medieval life was like for the itinerant traders and craftsmen. See them cooking their meal over the camp fire - maybe it's rabbit for dinner! ,

Medieval musicians, puppet shows for the children, the Falconer with his beautiful hunting hawks and birds of prey, archery and displays of battle skills by men at arms.

See what people wore, what they ate and how they lived, from the loftiest lady and most noble knight, to poorest peasant.

The 'Black Cock Tavern' will be open for fine local ales and refreshments of every sort and traditonal cakes for sale in the 'Dragon House' Tea Room
